What causes hair loss?

Hair loss is one of the most significant causes among the people of today’s world; even in the young generations! Most of the people lose their hair at a particular stage of their lives, and there can be many reasons behind their hair-related problems. The younger ones are losing hair in their early 20s. But do you know why it happens and what are the reasons behind hair loss?
Here, we’ll directly discuss about some of the most common causes of hair loss among people:

  • Alopecia
Alopecia areata is a condition that causes hair to fall out in small, circular patches on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. It happens due to your immune system attacking hair follicles. Typically, the hair will grow back after treatment, but it is common for hair loss to reoccur.

  • Improper Diet

Not having a proper diet is one of the reasons for causing hair fall in males and females. The food we eat outside is full of junk, and we don't even know about the ingredients they have used to prepare it, how much oil they have added and what kind of stuff they have used.

  • Genetics

Genetic factor is one of the main culprits of increased hair loss in men & women as well. If the people have started losing their hair at an early stage, then there can be hair loss/balding history of their parents involved behind hair loss.

  • Stress/Depression

If you have been under a lot of work pressure or stress at home, you might be able to blame your hair loss on stress. Excessive physical or psychological stress can normally cause the hair follicles to stop growing; thus falling out two or three months later.

  • Hormonal Imbalances
Testosterone is a hormone that is responsible for deeper voices, sex drive and muscular growth in men. When your body converts testosterone to the less useful dihydro testosterone (DHT), you can experience hair loss at that phase. DHT is the common reason for hair loss in men because it attacks and shrinks hair follicles and may result in hair thinning.
  • Surgery or Illness
The hair loss is a normal side-effect if you recently underwent a major surgery or are recovering from a serious illness. Many people experience dramatic levels of hair fall/loss some days/weeks after major surgery or an illness. While the level of hair loss may appear excessive, it is no more than a reaction to a specific event and your locks will return to normal after a certain period.

  • Medications

There are some anticoagulants and many chemotherapy drugs used in cancer treatments that become the reason for causing hair related problems. The hair follicles usually grow back once the medication stops. Some anti-depressants may also cause hair loss and too much vitamin A can have the similar effects.

  • Thyroid Issues
Some patients with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism experience hair loss because of speeding up the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Even the persons who are undergoing thyroid treatment sometimes become immune to the hair loss/hair fall associated with their problem.
